Eye opener

29 Nov

Okay, probably shouldn’t reveal this, but during the holidays, Thanksgiving, my brother-in-law, Scott, brings a very interested device to our house. Since we all enjoy a little evening libations, Scott proceeds to produce his own personal breath-analyser device. He then goes on about a business trip to Vegas and why he purchased the device yadda-yadda-yadda, but that’s another story.

BreathalyzerNeedless to say, it turned into a party toy that we passed around trying to see how “legally” inebriated we really were. Here’s the eye-opener. As it turns out, it doesn’t take much.

At first it was kind of fun to try and blow a high number, but then the reality set in. One evening, after just one drink, my wife, Jodi, who’s not a “large” person was blowing a .08 after one glass of wine. While I’m sure the device isn’t exactly perfect or takes in body weight as a factor, it was still a rude awakening.

On another evening, Scott proceeds to tell us about someone he knows who had only had a little one evening for dinner, was pulled over and now has a DUI on his record. The nightmare that insued makes every normal average guy/gal want to be clean and sober for ever.

I’m not advocating everyone run out and purchase one, but it sure made you stop and think.
